The goals of this collaborative initiative are to:

  • surface and synthesize the wealth of experience and knowledge that exists among the partner organizations to improve our understanding of the socio-environmental causes of childhood obesity, especially in low income communities and among children of color,
  • identify effective strategies to counter or mitigate those causes,
  • strengthen community assets to prevent and reduce the prevalence of overweight and obesity among young children in Detroit, and
  • create evidence-based tools that can be disseminated for use in other diverse communities
